           As part of our renewable energy workshop in Rotherham, students from the Whitewood’s Academy Trust learned how wind turbines work and explored the importance of sustainable energy in today's world. With gusts sweeping across the site, the turbine spun rapidly, generating electricity right before the students' eyes. This provided a powerful and memorable example of green energy in action. 
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            ﻿
           &#xD;

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;

           “Events like this are all about giving young people opportunities to explore STEM in a fun and supportive environment, the wind certainly added a bit of drama, but it turned out to be the perfect teaching tool. We couldn’t have planned it better!”

           On Monday 21st July, the Achieve Your Goals Team led another Green Careers session, this time for the incredible students at Armthorpe Shaw Wood Academy. The event began with an engaging presentation by the

           Achieve Your Goals
          &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
           team, introducing pupils to diverse environmental careers such as scientists, conservationists, foresters, and ecologists. The aim was to inspire curiosity and environmental awareness. 
          &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;h3&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
           Activity Highlights: 
          &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h3&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;ul&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
        
            Being a Forester:
           &#xD;
      &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Pupils measured tree branches and counted growth rings to estimate age, learning about trees' roles in ecosystems while applying mathematical skills. 
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
        
            Being a Hydrologist:
           &#xD;
      &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
          
             In lab gear, pupils tested water pH levels using indicator paper, gaining insight into how scientists monitor water quality. 
            &#xD;
        &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
        
            Being an Ecologist:
           &#xD;
      &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
          
             Pupils examined water samples under lenses to identify tiny organisms, learning how ecologists study ecosystems and biodiversity. 
            &#xD;
        &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
        
            Holding Station:
           &#xD;
      &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            A calming area offered games, card sorts, and colo
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            uring sheets related to green careers, reinforcing learning through play.
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

           Overall, the event combined hands-on activities with educational content to spark interest in environmental careers and promote sustainability awareness.

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

           "An amazing day and the children were so engaged in the workshop activities. All the staff were lovely and friendly and great with the children."

           We are proud to announce that Achieve Your Goals have recently been announced as ‘Project Innovation of the year - Community Retrofit' winners at the Unlock Net Zero Awards 2025.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           We have worked with Walsall Council and Hillary Primary School on an innovative approach that uses the school as a catalyst for engaging with parents and carers in order to identify hard-to-treat properties in the area.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
            
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Walsall is the 25th-most-deprived local authority area; 81% of Hillary’s pupils are in the lowest decile band of deprivation and 76% do not speak English as a first language. Internet use and adult literacy levels in the area are low, making face-to-face and in-home support key. Working with community interest company Achieve Your Goals, the council delivers bespoke energy and renewable energy education packages to children within the school, with the intention that they will share this information at home, piquing their parents’ interest and opening up a channel of communication.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
            
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Word had also been spread via social media and through community institutions. Using this approach, the project has been able to identify grant-eligible homes that may otherwise have flown under the radar. To date it has facilitated £1.5m of grant-funded retrofits, generating £78,500 in energy savings. 
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
            
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;h2&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;

This engaging session introduced pupils to a variety of green jobs through both an informative presentation and hands-on learning activities.

The session aimed to spark curiosity and encourage pupils to think about how they can help protect the planet in the future.

           In this station, pupils stepped into the shoes of a forester. Using tape measures, they measured the circumference and diameter of various tree branches. They then counted the rings to estimate the trees' ages. This activity encouraged mathematical thinking and introduced pupils to the important role trees play in ecosystems

           Wearing lab coats and safety goggles, pupils explored the work of hydrologists. Using pipettes, they collected water samples and tested pH le

           vels using universal indicator paper. This hands-on experiment helped pupils understand the importance of clean water and how scientists monitor water quality.

           On Wednesday 18th June, Year 5 pupils at Abbey Primary School took part in an exciting and educational event—The Sustainable Corner, designed to combine active play with meaningful learning. The session offered pupils a valuable opportunity to burn off some energy while also exploring important topics such as climate change, energy efficiency, and fuel poverty, all within a safe and supportive space. 
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

           In another excellent recording of our Game Changer Podcast, we spoke with the brilliant Year 5 students from Swinton Queen Primary School: Cody, Riley, Henry, Finlay, Lily, Jed and Grayson. The students shared their knowledge on all things STEM and sustainability, as well as their thoughts on windows with Bulletproof glass!

           “It's getting warmer which means Ice caps are melting and making the sea levels rise, and pretty much soon enough Antarctica will be gone, and the whole land will be covered in water”

    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;

           This is true. As global temperatures rise due to climate change, ice caps and glaciers, especially in places like Antarctica and Greenland, are melting at faster rates. This adds more water to the oceans, causing sea levels to rise. If this continues over time, many low-lying coastal areas could become flooded or submerged. 
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;

           “No, it's (climate) not the same as weather cause technically climate is the weather over like years or decades, like for example there could be climate in Africa 40 degrees over 30 years or something like that”

           Correct! Weather is what we experience day to day—like rain, sunshine, or wind. Climate, on the other hand, is the average pattern of weather over a long period of time, usually 30 years or more. So, saying Africa might have a hot climate (like 40°C regularly over many years) is a great example.

This warming leads to climate change and contributes to rising sea levels due to melting ice and expanding seawater.

           Absolutely right. Many factories release pollutants like carbon dioxide, sulphur dioxide, and other harmful gases into the air. These not only contribute to climate change but can also cause air pollution, which is bad for people’s health and the environment. 
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

           We hope they continue to spread their knowledge and inspiring advice, as well as using their fancy hot water bottles and travelling to school by horseback. The future of the planet is looking bright with these young voices leading the way.

           Trees play a vital role in producing oxygen through photosynthesis. They also absorb carbon dioxide, a major greenhouse gas. Unfortunately, deforestation has increased significantly in recent decades, putting many ecosystems and the planet’s health at risk.

  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;

           We are proud to announce that Achieve Your Goals have recently been announced as ‘Supporting Innovation’ winners at the APSE Energy Awards 2025.
          &#xD;

      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;

           &#xD;

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           We have worked with Walsall Council, to act as a ‘catalyst’ in the process of reaching out to parents/carers (householders) within the area. Via engagement with local school children, we have reached hard-to-reach households and found hard-to-treat homes. Delivering a bespoke sustainable energy education package to 200 children leading to £1.5m of grant-funded retrofits, with £78,500 of energy savings for parents and carers of pupils at Hillary Primary School.

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

           Achieve Your Goals CIC have been working in partnership with Walsall council to deliver an innovative project in Walsall, principally in the catchment area of Hillary Primary School.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           A package of learning about sustainability and energy efficiency has been created that incorporates literacy and numeracy, to allow pupils to fully understand the road to net zero. The programme allows children to learn about actionable climate changes.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            ﻿
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

           During the programme, we carried out a targeted engagement project with the children’s parents which has enabled them to access the following support and advice:

           Prepare – Installation of monitoring equipment at the school to explore the energy consumption of the building. This helps the children start to understand kWh and how much energy is used per square metre.

      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            ﻿
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

           Through the programme and with support from a number of funding streams, Walsall Council offered energy efficiency measures to 128 residents within the catchment area of the school. These measures comprised of 60 External Wall Insulation, 9 Loft Insulation, and 59 Solar PV systems installed. Prince Street in Walsall received extensive External Wall Insulation to a several properties. Due to planning restrictions on the street, houses were required to have brick slip feature to the front elevation of the properties. 
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;h2&gt;&#xD;

           The total value of works completed in the WS2 postcode area was in the region of £1.5 million and the average property received £12,500 of funding with total annual energy savings of £78,500. The properties completed within the WS2 area have had an average EPC increase from band E (pre EPC) to band C (post EPC)

           Achieve Your Goals (AYG) had an inspiring afternoon with Year 3 pupils at Hillary Primary School, and were blown away by the students' imagination, teamwork, and passion for sustainable energy!
          &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
           As part of the AYG educational programme, the pupils have been diving into the world of sustainable and affordable energy in class. Their efforts were rewarded with a dynamic, hands-on STEM workshop that brought their learning to life.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
           During the session, students launched their very own renewable energy construction companies. With imaginative names like “Build it, Be it” and “Build a Better Planet”, they showcased creativity, collaboration, and entrepreneurial spirit.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
           Each team explored key roles in the green energy industry—from safety-conscious Health and Safety Officers spotting construction site hazards, to sharp-minded Quantity Surveyors crunching the numbers. The highlight? Building a working wind turbine that successfully powered a light bulb!
          &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
           The AYG team, joined by representatives from Walsall Council, were thrilled to see such talent and drive in action. It’s safe to say the future of green energy looks bright with these budding engineers and innovators leading the way.
